The Blind Side
The Blind Side has made an appearance in my last two box office reports -- this being the third -- and I've concluded with "wow" after every time I mention just how well the film is doing. So now here is a big "whoa!," as the film continues to hold strong and, doing something that is extremely rare, took the top spot at the box office for the first time in its third frame.
Box Office Winner: The Blind Side
Warner Bros. skipped doing the blitz on the box office and instead went with zone coverage, something that has paid off. Playing its third frame, The Blind Side grossed an estimated $20.4 million to take the number one spot at the domestic box office; bringing it's total domestic cume to $129.3 million.
Thanks to Blind Side and New Moon, which did just fine with $15.7 million in its third weekend, the box office was up a staggering 22% over the same frame last year. Though taking the number two spot domestically, New Moon still won the weekend overseas with $40.7 million. The film has so far earned $570.1 million worldwide.
Though the extended theatrical life of both Blind Side and New Moon are taking ticket sales away from new wide releases, Lionsgate's Brothers still fared well with $9.7 million.
Everybody else was on par, save for Full Circle's spoof Transylmania, which was only able to collect $4 million from 2,133 screens.
