For a documentary, Paper Heart is totally clear HD footage. A few shots may appear grainy, as a sort of digital artifact due to low light, but it’s all good. It helps that Anchor Bay just gives all their movies the royal treatment, no matter how successful or “important.”

You see the real locations for what they are. The Vegas lights shien with colors, the biker bars have their character, the zoo shows animals clearly and there’s a golden sunset on the beach.
The paper animation shows all the texture of the cutouts moving along by string. The only really extreme detail in the live action footage is the fuzz of the sweatshirts Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera wear. The rest is just clarity, if not crazy detail.
