I knew we'd be putting up a report this weekend for Avatar, as the film is about to break $2.5 million, but IMAX has some cool news worth noting first. Marking yet another milestone for the supersized format, Avatar has passed the worldwide mark of $200 million on Sunday.
Avatar Breaks IMAX's $200 Million Mark
So just how good is $200 million from IMAX? Well, it beats out the previous all-time record holder, The Dark Knight, by about $134 million. Just in case you can't subtract, TDK did $66 million.
Thanks to films like Avatar (and The Dark Knight), IMAX has become a considerable player among the exhibitors.
"At the end of the day, what really has grown our business hasn't been one movie, but our ability to acclimate to our partners and not the other way around," said Imax prexy and chairman Greg Foster.
