Merritt Weaver got to play an adorable character on Nurse Jackie. As the new student nurse Zoey Barkow, her overwhelmed reactions to standard ER fare were so sweet, you’d almost forgive her for botching simple procedures. Season two, she’s still learning but she’s not a freshman anymore.

“I have no idea academically how it works or technically if she is a student nurse,” Weaver said. “But the first season was a lot more, for her, about being new, the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, enthusiastic newbie. And some time has gone by, and she gets to spread her wings a little and she's a little more comfortable, takes on a little more responsibility, that kind of stuff.”
Nurse Jackie herself hasn’t quite rubbed off on her yet, but Zoey’s trying. “I think she's still following her chosen mentor, yeah. I think, she's still following, but she's starting to learn some stuff for herself.”
Zoey’s love life will heat up this year too. “I don't know if it's booty call, but it's a situation, and I don't know how much I want to give away, but she definitely gets her pipes cleaned.”
