American Idol Season 9 Top 10 Guys

The judges swapped seats this week. Randy was back in the first spot, followed by Ellen, Kara and Simon. Why? Was someone not in favor of Ellen giving her opinion first? She has actually been a huge disappointment - much like the guys this season. Speaking of the guys, they were up tonight due to Crystal Bowersox having a medical emergency. Hopefully she will be better for the Wednesday competition.
Letís break it down from worst to first.
American Idol: Season 9 Top 10 Guys
Jermaine Sellers – “What’s Going On” Marvin Gaye – voice not strong enough, better than last week but not good enough, weak front with stronger finish – Randy said better than last week, so close but so far – Ellen said love your style, didn’t work for me, a little bit pushed – Kara said doing too much, pull it back feels forced, trying to show every trick – Simon said frustrated and disappointed, water down songs, play around with it too much.
Tim Urban – “Come on Get Higher” Matt Nathanson – with guitar, better than last week, but not a strong enough singer for Idol – Randy said karaoke, nothing special, pitch problems – Ellen said you should be on “Glee”, no stage presence (if someone has no stage presence why would you encourage them to be on T.V. ? I’m just saying) – Kara said like the song choice, didn’t make it your own, not all adding up – Simon said marked improvement from last week, listened to criticism, young song, impressed with attitude and work ethic, didn’t whine.
Todrick Hall – “What’s Love Got to do with It” Tina Turner – much better this week, some soul, at least felt the performance – Randy said falsetto run at the end hot, didn’t love this, just sing a song – Ellen said sing and move, you are a dancer, be a performer on stage, I want you here, not a current song – Kara said we all like you, when you started moving it was better – Simon said move but don’t sing, not working out for you, theme park caliber performance, getting this wrong.
John Park – “Gravity” John Mayer – so much better, on key, needs more connection – Randy said didn’t bring anything to it, pitch problems, nothing special – Ellen said better song choice, needed more soul – Kara said way better than last week, lack connection, let loose, take some risks – Simon said a so what performance, struggle with believability, forgettable.
Alex Lambert – ”Everybody Knows” John Legend – with guitar, pitch problems, weak performer, too nervous – Randy said improvement, love the guitar and confidence, nice, enjoyed it, way legit – Ellen said so much better, gaining so much experience, most unique style of anyone here, Sam Cooke voice under that mullet – Kara said recordable voice, others would die to have that tone, you will learn – Simon said million times better than last week, good voice, need killer instinct, now wish I could choose your songs now.
Andrew Garcia – “You Give Me Something” James Morrison – no emotion almost stone faced, good singer, nice tone, few pitch issues – Randy said not the vibe for you tonight, pitchy all over the place, not a soul singer – Ellen said couple pitch problems but I liked it, really good – Kara said like you, see potential, surprise us, too safe – Simon said frustrating, still haven’t picked right song, it was ok but you are better than ok, disappointed.
Casey James – “I Don’t Wanna Be” Gavin Degraw – with electric guitar, he can play! – serviceable performance, not as good as last week, but still one of the better singers – Randy said channeling Hendrix, this is the kind of music for you but not the best vocals – Ellen said great song, some stiffness on stage, on paper you have everything, great lead guitar player – Kara said two steps backward, not front and center, honesty went away, still a fan – Simon said this week like someone in any bar in America, someone trying to be a ‘rock star’.
Aaron Kelly – “My Girl” The Temptations – much better performance value, a good little singer – Randy said first half brilliant, nice one, 200% better than last week – Ellen said more confidence, song forgettable, great voice – Kara said really liked it, I like you, consistent, country twang, vibrato -Simon said didn’t like the song, all over the place, what kind of artist do you want to be, old fashioned.
Lee Dewyze – “Lips of an Angel” Hinder – good, rocker vibe, great tone – Randy said bold move, I love you, couple pitch problems – Ellen said passion, intensity, great – Kara said big improvement, can hear you on the radio now, commercial, good job – Simon said vocally head and shoulders above the other guys, need self belief, look terrified, you may be the one to beat.
Michael Lynche – “This is a Man’s World” James Brown – soulful, owned the stage, much improved performance – Randy said crazy, R&B Star (standing O) – Ellen said like every song choice you have made, potentially the one to beat – Kara said tonight you went from being a singer to a great artist, a different Mike, I’m feeling it – Simon said a pussycat to a lion in one week, right kind of song, didn’t sound dated, your best performance in the competition so far.
Did your favorite do you proud tonight? Who is staying and who is going home? Will America get it right or will a less deserving contestant continue to hang on? The girls perform Wednesday night with results Thursday night on Fox.
