Clash of the Titans
If there is one trend I've been noticing the past couple years, it is that negative reviews no longer seem to slow down highly anticipated films. Take Clash of the Titans for instance. Most people did not like the remake, but the film still went on to score during the Easter weekend.
Box Office Champ: Clash of the Titans
I guess Warner Bros. estimate that Clash of the Titans would end up earning $200 million domestically might turn out being true. The film opened to an estimated $61.4 million over the weekend, with 52% coming from the crappier 3D version. The film also opened overseas, hauling in another $44.2 million from international ticket sales; bringing it's total take to $108.3 million.
While I wouldn't think that there'd be much room for anything else over the Easter frame, Lionsgate landed a hit with Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? The sequel opened to a respectable $30.2 million. The only other wide release was Disney's Miley Cyrus drama The Last Song, which did just fine with $16.2 million.
All in all the weekend was up 17% over the same frame last year and 36% over the last Easter weekend.
