Date Night
Date Night might have taken the top spot this weekend at the box office, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a close race. Though many thought the film was only up against Warner Bros' Clash of the Titans, DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon came flying in out of nowhere.
Box Office Bout
Date Night, which did enjoy the heavy advantage of having its opening bow, took the top spot with an estimated $27.1 million. The film owes thanks to couples over the age of 25, which represented about 60% of the film's audience.
Coming in second was Clash of the Titans with $26.9 million. Though coming into its second weekend, it was hard to predict just how well the film would do considering all the backlash against the film's gimmicky attempt at 3D. The ticket sales held pretty well, but it may become hard for this film to break the $200 million mark, which Warner Bros at one time thought it would.
And finally there is How to Train Your Dragon. I can't say how happy I am to see that the CG (and 3D) animation dropped a miniscule 13% to earn $25.4 million at the box office. Definitely my favorite of the top three films, and I hope more people get out to see this movie; especially in 3D.
All in all the weekend was down 3% from the same frame last year. No hard feelings however, considering last year we were celebrating Easter; something that always boosts box office numbers.
