Conan O'Brien
While most of us thought for sure it would be Fox who picked up Conan O'Brien, it turns out that the up-and-comer, TBS, was better able to persuade him to come aboard.
Conan O'Brien Joins TBS
TBS, a network that has re-shifted its image to comedy back in 2000, has just made a big play by landing Conan O'Brien for his new late night show come this November. The network, which has already had success with George Lopez's Lopez Tonight, has been eager to get another late night talk show up and running. In comes Conan, who actually got persuaded to come aboard by Lopez himself. The two will now combine to make a two-hour window of late night comedy from Monday to Thursday.
"Conan is the kind of personality who will bring people to TBS who might not have been with us before," Turner Entertainment Networks president Steve Koonin told Daily Variety. "We're heavily investing in comedy and believe Conan is the exact person who can kickstart this."
"Having a once in a lifetime chance to pick up a guy like Conan was too good to pass up," Koonin said.
