Footloose
It was July of 2007 when Paramount first announced that they'd be doing a remake of Footloose. Now, almost three years and a couple scripts later, the studio has found their director with Craig Brewer, who just so happens to have written a script of his own.
Craig Brewer to Direct Footloose
Craig Brewer will step in for Kenny Ortega, who exited the project due to creative differences and budget problems. In 2007 we were told that Efron was in talks to play the title role, but it instead went to Chace Crawford. Unfortunately for Paramount, he has also had to exit the production due to scheduling conflicts with CW's Gossip Girl.
Casting has already commenced, with a production date set to start this summer.
Released in 1984, the original Footloose starred Kevin Bacon as a city kid who moves from Chicago to a conservative town that has banned dancing and rock music.
