Lucy Hale stars in ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, based on the series of novels by Sara Shepard. The four deceptive girls of the title begin receiving messages, seemingly from their missing friend. New viewers won’t take long to catch up, and fans of the books won’t have to wait long to move forward.
Lucy Hale One Of the Pretty Little Liars
“The pilot is pretty much the first book,” Hale said. “So I honestly don’t know if they’re going to take their time or do their own thing or what’s going to happen, but so far we’re on the fifth episode. We’re sticking pretty close to the books and I think that’s good because they’re pretty big and we don’t want to disappoint any of the book fans.”
Along with juicy secrets come the show’s high fashion. Hale will fulfill the “Pretty” part of the title while she’s lying. “Our costume lady is phenomenal. My character is sort of vintage and modern, like mixed together. She will literally cut stuff and leave it frayed because my character is supposed to make her own clothes. So I don't know where she gets her stuff, from all over the place. The other thing about our show is it is very fashion forward and exciting but you can also wear it in everyday life, whereas there are some shows where you’re like wow, that’s really cool. Where would I ever wear that though?”
Even though the show airs on ABC Family, it’s no kiddie show. Don’t expect the network to water down any of the books. “ABC Family is definitely stepping it up a little and becoming more mature and darker. It’s unlike ABC Family’s ever done before when it comes to material and the issues that the show is about. So I was definitely very intrigued when I read the script and the name is the first thing. The name of the show, I was like wow, that’s a great title.”
Pretty Little Liars premiered June 8th on ABC Family.
