Taylor Lautner may be responsible for the rise of Team Jacob. Edward is supposed to be the romantic lead of Twilight but when you see Lautner as Jacob, you kind of want Bella to go for him. They kiss in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and it kind of looks better than any kiss with Edward.

“I think we had a little help with like the background,” Lautner said. “We are on top of the mountain, and the camera is swooping around us. think we had a little help to make it look that good.”
In addition to getting close to Bella, Jacob also gets to confront Edward in Eclipse. “It’s definitely the tent scene. I feel like it sums up the entire movie. It’s very tense, but at the same time it’s funny, and it’s the first time Edward and Jacob are able to connect and understand each other.”
If you’ve read the book, you know that Jacob ends up in bad shape after the battle. The final scenes of Jacob hanging in there to stick around for Breaking Dawn were Lautner’s biggest challenge.

“The most difficult scene for me was probably my last scene of the movie in Jacob’s bed after he’s been crushed and he’s hurt and he’s almost in tears. He’s holding back and he just kind of begs one last time and gets told no, one last time. So it was a pretty emotional scene, and then one thing about my character that I always have to be conscious about, Jacob has like three faces, and Stephanie describes them in the book. He has his old face, like how he used to be, the old, happy go lucky, friendly, little kid, and then he has his new face, which he’s more serious, he’s more mature, because of everything he has gone through and everything he’s dealt with. He has that face, and then he has one like a mixed face, where you see he’s new, but you also see hints of his old self, so he’ll be like having a conversation with Bella that’s very serious, but then you’ll see a moment where he laughs and he makes a joke or something, and then he goes back to being serious, so it’s always having to keep track of which face I’m showing at that moment.”
Lautner has also grown up, and bulked up, as the films progressed. Maybe that’s why Jacob seems like such a man now. “I don’t know if it really has anything to do with me. It’s kind of all in the books and that’s what we go off of. That’s exactly what the fans want to see, but yeah Jacob definitely matures quite a bit because he’s been dealing with his new self now. He’s come to know his new self and the situations he’s been put in romantic wise. He deals with a lot. He becomes frustrated in this one a little bit because he gets this close all the time and gets told no over and over again so it’s quite a bummer but he’s quite persistent.”
Team Jacob definitely has a spokesman in Lautner. “I think there’s just a big difference by reading something, and then actually visually seeing it, or for me it was that way at least. I mean, I loved the books, but I think just the fact of bringing it from words on a page up into a screen where you can see it, and see how everything plays out with characters that you can put your head to, makes a huge difference. For me, my job was just to bring the character that was written in the books to life for the fans and I really hope that people feel that way.”
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will open to theaters on June 30.
