Helen Mirren is one of the most distinguished actors of our time. She’s acclaimed for her roles as royalty, in historical dramas and classic BBC series. She will next be seen in the comic book movie Red. It was an easy choice for Dame Helen.
Helen Mirren Talks Red
“Not The Queen, Bruce Willis, evening dress, machine gun,” she explained to a press conference at San Diego Comic Con. “Gotta do it.”
The film is about retired agents going up against the new generation of young CIA operatives. Mirren added her wisdom on that too. “I would just say that as an older person, you bring a different energy to the piece and maybe it’s the energy of wisdom and the energy of experience. I think that in a sense is the story of the movie as well that people are bringing their deep experience normal to what they’re doing to this particular job.”
Dame Helen got to learn some new skills for the job too. “Well, shooting a gun was all I had to learn really. That was fun to do and I did it.”
Red
It should be easy for the acclaimed thespian to come across as a tough girl, but in real life she admits her fears. “I’m kind of frightened all the time. My life is just overcoming fear. First nights in the theater are always scary. Right now I’m terrified of rubbish in New York. Such a mountain of it. Where does it go? I’m terrified of plastic basically. Plastic packaging is scaring me right now. Get rid of it.”
Red opens to theaters on October 15th.
