It feels like Mark Wahlberg has made The Other Guys for real a few times. In the comedy version, he and Will Ferrell play desk cops who have to step up and solve a crime like action heroes.

“I didn’t even want to read the script,” Wahlberg said. “I didn’t care but they said would you be interested in doing a movie and I said yeah and they said, ‘Well, do you want to hear the idea first?’ I said, ‘If you want to tell me. If not we can just order dinner and drink some more wine.’ Literally, I have always wanted to do a comedy and to get an opportunity to work with these guys was just a dream come true.”

The movie lived up to his expectations. “I had a lot of fun making this movie. I certainly felt very comfortable when it came to anything cop-ish or action. With all the other stuff I just basically wanted to follow their lead. I basically just did whatever they told me. I learned the lines then I showed up. I'd say the lines and if they wanted me to try anything else I'd certainly be willing to try anything.”

Wahlberg gets to bring back some of his funky moves in The Other Guys. Actually, he rocks a little ballet. “I thought it'd be easier than it was. I trained with a guy for awhile and then when it came down to it, I just couldn't do it.”

One of the jokes is that his character has been demoted for accidentally shooting Derek Jeter. “I was simply thrilled. I felt bad after because he's such a nice guy. We're going to screen the movie in Boston on the 3rd of August and I can not wait. I just became a legend in Boston.”

He also held his own in a fight scene with Rob Riggle. “I choked the sh*t out of that big motherf*cker. I choked the shit out of Will too. It didn’t end up in the movie.”

Wahlberg had to stay tough because comedians are brutal. “All those f*ckin’ comedy guys that would show up every day, f*ckin’ oh my god. You don’t understand, literally every f*cking scene, some guy wants to fight me. I looked at Will and go, ‘How many comedians are there in this fucking movie?’ It’s like you and Sandler and a couple of other guys. Sh*t.”

The Other Guys opens to theaters on August 6th.
