The Social Network
The Social Network came in above expectations for Sony by topping off the box office with $23 million. Considering that I can only agree with the critics by calling the film one of the best of 2010, I personally expected more.
The Social Network Wins Over Friends at Box Office
The interesting thing about The Social Network's box office numbers are those who went to see it. Over half the audience was female and about 55% were twenty-five or older. Pretty interesting considering that Sony started to push their marketing scheme toward the youngens long before the film hit theaters. The good thing about older audiences is that they usually equate into longer runs at the box office, and word of mouth has been solid for the film.
"The demo breakdown bodes really well for this film," said Sony prexy of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer. "There's no doubt in my mind that this movie is going to be around for a very long time."
