| Posters, yeah, we like
posters, but we like trailers more. Fortunately for us, 'Smokin' Joe Carnahan
is cool enough to not only deliver both, but has recently posted a new Q&A
for his upcoming romp, Smokin'
Aces, as well.
Poster, TV Spot and Q&A Oh My!: Smokin' Aces
Got to send some kudos over to Joe Carnahan. Not only is the director keeping
us busy with a few good new updates every week for Smokin' Aces,
he is also kind enough to post information that could get him sued; no joke.
To kick off Carnahan's recent string of updates, just out the new character
poster for the film below:
Smokin' Aces Poster:
Ray, one of my favorite actors on the planet and my undeniable staff
Ace. (Bad puns are my running obsession) This was an image that was
ultimately not used as part of the overall poster. Everybody thought
Ray looked like he was mid-dance move, like he was 'up-rocking' or some
shit. I understand that, but it also vibes tension and gives you the
notion that some nasty stuff is about to jump off. Again, it was an
image we didn't elect to go with, but something I thought was interesting
enough to throw up here. All of these things wind up being wonderfully
anecdotal and you can at least see the creative thought process (or
lack thereof) behind the choices that are made.
You like that? Then you will love the new UK
TV Spot for the film. Note to self: having certain elements in color
with the rest of the shot in B&W looks pretty damn cool. Should I am
assume that this technique is limited to this spot?
Last, but not least, Joe Carnahan quickly answers some questions from the
Would love to see other types of advertising collateral
like presskits, and not just from the U.S. but from abroad as well. It would
be great to compare the ad campaigns from different regions. And as long
as you're taking requests, how about any behind-the-scenes vidoes of Reynolds,
Keys, and others going through weapons training...or do you want to save
that for the DVD.
Let me see if there are more electronic press-kit things that I can post
that aren't going on the
DVD. I'll try to find the behind-the-scenes stuff of that gun training.
It's pretty amazing footage
and you really get an idea of how fast they both were.
This is my first time posting a review on here. I can't
wait for Smokin' Aces to come out! I've known about the movie since the
summer when I read an interview with Taraji Hensen and she mentioned what
the movie is about and her character. Can you tell us how it was working
with alicia keys and common, knowing that this is their debut film?
Alicia and Common are fantastic. They both came into this process without
any pretense and without
a shred of ego. Anytime you can make those things a permanent part of the
playing field, you're going to yield great results. You won't be able to
identify them as first-time actors with the performances they handed in
and that's the best compliment I can pay them. Their work is perfectly intergrated
with the other performances and the rest of the film. It's seamless.
Check out the entire Q&A over at Smokin'
Smokin' Aces opens on January 26th, 2007.
