Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
$9.13 billion. That’s the amount of money that we all wasted watching movies this year. This was up from last year’s totals of $8.83 billion. $9.13 billion, huh folks? That is over $1 million dollars per hour or to break it down even further, Hollywood earned $290 a second this year!
2006 Box Office Numbers Are Up
Sony took the lion’s share, taking in 18.59% of the earnings with Disney taking 2nd place with 16.1%, but who’s counting, right? Ok, I am. Fox, Warner Bros. and Paramount took spots 3-5.
Some interesting tidbits on the year: Biggest earner of the year, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest which should have been called, “Pirates of the Caribbean 2: The trailer for Pirates 3”. Did you know that Over the Hedge earned more than M.I:3? The only independent movie to make the top 25? Saw III. And someone’s idea of putting Colin Farrell on a go-fast boat, having him drink mojitos, have sex in Cuba and then calling it Miami Vice, didn’t work out too well.
