Pan's Labyrinth
Of my goals over the weekend two on the list had me watching Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men. I ended up catching Children of Men and admit that my blood pressure has yet to go down after leaving the theatre. Pan's Labyrinth -- a film I have been dying to see ever since its first screening -- will have to wait until this week, but it sill found mass audiences with other moviegoers.
Pan's Labyrinth Takes Box Office for the Limited Crowd
Just about every critic, save Fred, has listed Pan's Labyrinth as either the number one or number two best film of 2006. The idea sounds off the charts and having a "children's fantasy" also be Rated-R further drives my curiosity. It turns out that, though the film is in Spanish, it is still doing amazing in preparation for its expanded release.
In its second weekend, Pan's Labyrinth had an astounding per-screen average of $16,524 with only 44 screens. The film has so far taken in $1.8 million. The figure itself sounds low, but the film is on track to perform well in expanded release.
Warner Independent's The Painted Veil, starring Edward Norton and Naomi Watts, jumped 32% in biz. The film averaged $6,667 per screen to take in $480,000 and bring its cume to date to $1.24 million.
Miramax's The Queen jumped another 10.2% in ticket sales over the year's first frame. Pic starring Helen Mirren brought in another $1 million off 323 to raise its cume to almost $30 million after 15 weeks of release.
Pan's Labyrinth will have an expanded release this January 19th.
