Originally thought to have been in contention for the Oscar’s Best Animated Feature, Arthur and the Invisibles has just turned into the Hollow Man at this party.

Arthur and the Invisibles Pulled from Oscar Contention

It wasn’t the film’s late release that was the problem, the issue had to do with the fact that the picture wasn’t as “animated” as it needed to be. To be considered for contention, the movie needs to have 75% of it be animated. Whoops! Someone in the editing room is getting fired.

So why am I telling you this? Well, since the possible films for nomination has dropped from 16 to 15, this means that only 3 films will be up for the award instead of the possible 5, had The Invisibles been allowed in. (See: the 15 middle fingers from all the other films in contention)

Which films will get the nod? Everyone’s guess (ok, mine) is that the three will come from Cars, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Happy Feet and Over the Hedge.

Arthur and the Invisibles comes to theatres on January 12th, 2007.

We will find out for sure on January 23rd. Stay tuned for updates.
