We had expected the latest cast addition for Tonight, He Comes to be Charlize Theron. It turns out that the actress remains in talks with Columbia Pictures. No matter, the studio has found its other male lead in Jason Bateman.
Jason Bateman for Tonight, He Comes
Columbia Pictures has picked up Jason Bateman to co-star with Will Smith in the superhero drama Tonight, He Comes.
Produced by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Mann, James Lassiter and Will Smith, Columbia hopes to have the film in theatres by 2008.
Peter Berg will direct.
Tonight, He Comes revolves around a hard-living, middle-aged superhero (Smith) facing an existential crisis and a disillusioned fan base. Bateman plays a public relations exec who revamps the superhero's image after being saved -- even as the superhero woos the exec's wife.
The only project that has been in 'development' longer is Cameron's Avatar. The long-gestating Tonight kicked off a decade ago with a first script from Vincent Ngo. The screenplay was ultimately refashioned by scribe Vince Gilligan.
The film will reunite Berg and Bateman, who recently worked together on The Kingdom.
