The Mummy
Brendan Fraser says that he'll do it and Rachel Weisz has shown interest in returning to the franchise. All a third installment of The Mummy needs now is somebody to direct.
Coming off of XXX and Stealth, one would have to figure that Rob Cohen is due.
Rob Cohen to Unwrap The Mummy
Rob Cohen is in talks with Universal Pictures to direct the third installment in The Mummy franchise. The film has been in active development for about a year and Universal has a working script from scribes Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
Though neither Fraser nor Weisz have signed on just yet, both have announced interest in reprising their roles.
And then we have Cohen, a director that has remained close to Universal with films such as The Skulls and The Fast and the Furious. Like his other two mentioned above, I can stamp these with CRAP. Having enjoyed both Mummy installments to date, I can only hope that the director tries something new this time around.
Universal is hoping to have The Mummy 3 in theatres by 2008, a year that is entirely open for the studio. To help fill the slate, Universal is also working on Meet the Little Focker, a remake of The Wolf Man and Hellboy 2.
