I don't know if I meet the consensus, but I was originally not in the least bit excited about Hannibal Rising. A prequel about the origins of Hannibal? Not feeling it. The film's final trailer does surprise, however, with a very Dexter approach to Lecter's story.
Trailer: Hannibal Rising
The trailer kicks off with some great looking war footage that sets the stage for his family's brutal murder. It turns out that witnessing this murder is what caused Hannibal to have an acquired taste for human flesh. The kid ages and only finds more abuse at a work camp up until he is old enough to enjoy his first glass of Chianti. Taking revenge to new heights, Hannibal seeks out those who committed the wrongdoing that lead to his family's demise. Very creative killing ensues.
Does this story sound familiar? Well, if you are a fan of Showtime's Dexter it should. Dexter is a serial killer that kills criminals by cutting them apart while they are still alive. A great premise that Hannibal Rising will also use. Instead of a cop, however, Hannibal is also on the run from authorities.
