Casino Royale
Just when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest looked unstoppable when it came to box office numbers it will be Bond with Casino Royale who silences Disney's run in the UK. Thanks to another strong weekend with the Brits, Casino Royale has become UK's top-grossing film of 2006.
Casino Royale Takes 2006 BO in U.K.
Casino Royale only dropped 20% over the last weekend, allowing the film to take in another $1.8 million in the UK. With this amount, Casino Royale has replaced Dead Man's Chest as the top box office film for 2006 in the UK.
The latest Bond installment starring Daniel Craig has earned slightly over $104 million in nine frames, barely nudging it past the $103 million taken in by the second Pirates installment.
Columbia Pictures owes a great deal of the film's British success to its opening weekend. With $21.6 million in the first three days, Casino Royale is also the third biggest bow in UK box office history.
Thanks to strong word of mouth, the film has managed to chug along since its late November release.
Great for Columbia Pictures and even better for Craig, who faced tons of criticism and hate long before a single scene was shown from the film.
Casino Royale is out in theatres now.
