When life doesn’t allow you to go forward at warp speed to earn your bucks, why not go backwards and make a prequel? According to iesb.net (reposted at IGN), that is the apparent thinking for the latest installment of the Star Trek Series, Star Trek XI. The Movie will take us back to the early days of Kirk, Spock and Scottie. Well, beam me up and never tell me that my ass looked so big!

Contrary to popular/lazy belief, Captain Kirk was not the Alpha (and clearly not the Omega) of Enterprise captains. For the die hard fans out there, and we know you number in at least the tens..of MILLIONS... some of you may remember from the episode “The Menagerie”, that a one, Christopher Pike was the captain prior to Captain Kirk.
Seeing as to how they would like to bring back Shatner (You didn’t think that “Show Me the Money” would last more than 13 minutes, did you?) and Leonard Nimoy as actors in this film, the plot would have to be a little “to and fro” if you will as far as flashbacks go, etc. All the makeup in the world couldn’t convince us that these guys are any younger than Fidel Castro.
According to Shatner in an interview he did with IGN TV, "They seem to be going in the direction of putting in [Leonard] Nimoy and myself [into Star Trek XI]. But in order to do that, it's a difficult story to write. …But in order to entice Leonard and myself into the movie, it has to be meaningful in some way, so I don't know what they're gonna do."
So at this point, all we can do is wait and see exactly how these guys are going to be used in the film. It is rumored that a finished script was submitted 3 weeks ago so we’ll see what comes of that. And unless you have time travel, you’ll have to stay tuned for more updates.
