It was hard enough for Julie Mayer to trust Edie Brit's nephew. Now that she gave herself to him completely, she's suffered the ultimate betrayal. But the worst is behind her after finding out he cheated, right?
Andrea Bowen on Desperate Housewives
"Things are going to get worse before they get better actually," said actress Andrea Bowen. "It's Desperate Housewives, you've got to have the drama."
Usually the voice of reason in Susan (Teri Hatcher)'s hair brained schemes, Julie has had her own central storyline this year. Bowen has enjoyed the extra duty. "I love it. It's really fun. I love that our show, we have such a big ensemble that it's nice that we switch off with sharing the kind of little more central storylines. This year I've just been having a blast because I love my storyline, I love the people I work with and I feel so blessed to have this job. It's really fun for me and I want to work as much as I can, so I've been very happy this year."
She never expected to be one of Desperate Housewives's sex scandals though. "It's weird because I started out being the little girl on the show. Just to kind of watch the evolution of my character, it's been really fun. This season, I kind of had an idea that it was going to go there but I don't think my parents did and I don't think the moms in America were ready for Julie going there and having actual love scenes."
Don't worry, she hasn't lost any of the soccer moms yet. "Their hearts are going out there because of Joy [Lauren's character] going ahead and sleeping with my man so I'm getting more of the sympathy vote."
Should Julie ever take Austin back, imagine the drama of having Edie Brit as a mother-in-law. "Julie likes Edie. Julie and Edie have never had a problem. It's Susan and Edie that would be the problem so that would be, I think, a very interesting storyline for them to explore. Hopefully they'll do that one day, make them more together because people love Nicolette and Teri working together."
Things have been tense between Julie and Susan this year with Julie taking a stand against some of Susan's self-destructive antics. Things seem to be coming around now that there is a real crisis for a parent to lend her shoulder. "It's dipped a lot this year, it's ebbed and flowed. People are used to seeing them have that great best friend kind of relationship that they're used to seeing and this year, you've seen them experience a little bit more tension than you're used to and it definitely swings back that way but especially in tonight's episode, you see a more maternal side to human and you see her heart really go out to her daughter and it's really nice that they did that."
