Was it 2005 or 2006 when we kept hearing Lucas tell us that Indiana Jones IV had a script ready to go? Either way, the director was just keeping us distracted while he and Spielberg got a real script ready. With an approved script announced only a few days before the New Year, we owe it to scribe David Koepp for getting this franchise back off the ground.
Koepp Hints on Indy 4 Script
Though DreamWorks used a special glue to keep Koepp's lips sealed, the writer still didn't mind dropping a few hints on the Indy IV script to FilmStew.
“I spent about a year on it, first doing drafts with Steven and then doing drafts with Steven and George,” he explains. “It was a lot of fun. The first thing is that you realize this is a beloved character, probably one of the most in film history, and a lot of people are going to be angry no matter what I do.”
“I’m going to get my *ss handed to me on some level, even by my fellow filmmakers or the audience,” Koepp continues. “So you just accept all that and go and do the best thing you can with as much love as you can. I worked with Steven a number of times but never with both of them [Spielberg, Lucas]. They’re big guys with big opinions and it’s definitely a challenge, but a challenge worth stepping up to.”
Stepping into such a huge franchise is definitely a big deal, so let's home he listened more to Spielberg and less to Lucas for the franchise's first installment back. I mean, we don't want another Phantom Menace.
