Paramount Leads Oscar Race with 19 Noms

The nominees for the 79th Annual Academy Awards have been selected (read our predictions) and Paramount has come up on top.

Paramount Leads with 19 Oscar Nominations


When the nominations for the 79th Annual Academy Awards were announced today, Paramount Pictures Corporation led all other studios with 19 nominations with films that were released by Paramount Pictures and Paramount Vantage in 2006.

DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures’ Dreamgirls, garnered 8 nominations, the most of any film, in the following categories: Supporting actor - Eddie Murphy; Supporting actress – Jennifer Hudson; Art direction – John Myhre (Production Designer), Tomas Voth (Supervising Art Director), Nancy Haigh (Set Decorator); Costume Design – Sharen Davis; Best song – “Listen” written by Henry Krieger, Anne Preven, Scott Cutler and Beyoncé Knowles; Best song – ”Love You I Do” written by Henry Krieger and Sedah Garrett; Best song – “Patience” written by Henry Krieger and Willie Reale; and Sound Mixing - Willie Burton (Production Sound Mixer), Michael Minkler, C.A.S. and Bob Beemer (Re-Recording Mixers).

Paramount Vantage’s Babel received 7 nominations, for Best Picture - Producers Alejandro González Iñárritu, Jon Kilik, Steve Golin; Best Director – Alejandro González Iñárritu; Best Supporting Actress – Rinko Kikuchi; Best Supporting Actress – Adriana Barraza; Film Editing – Stephen Mirrione, A.C.E. & Douglas Crise; Original Score – Gustavo Santaolalla; and Original Screenplay – Guillermo Arriaga.


Dreamworks Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures Flags of Our Fathers, distributed by Paramount Pictures, took 2 nominations, for Sound Editing - Alan Robert Murray (Supervising Sound Editor), Bub Asman (Co-Supervising Sound Editor) and Sound Mixing - Walt Martin(Sound Mixer), John Reitz, Dave Campbell, Gregg Rudloff (Re-Recording Mixers).

An Inconvenient Truth, released by Paramount Vantage, was nominated for Best Documentary – Davis Guggenheim, Director; and Best Song – “I Need To Wake Up,” written and performed by Melissa Etheridge.

The 79th Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC February 25th at 5PM PST.
