Fresh off the press, Russell Crowe recently signed a deal that will reunite the actor with Imagine Entertainment. What for you ask? How about a retelling of Robin Hood?
Crowe Takes a Stab at Robin Hood with Nottingham
Russell Crowe is looking to receive loads of money -- $20 million against 20% to be exact -- to star as the Sheriff of Nottingham in the upcoming film Nottingham.
A revisionist version of the classic tale of Robin Hood, scribes Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris wrote the spec script that takes a Sheriff's view of the story that was last lead by Kevin Costner. If memory serves me well, it was the great Alan Rickman who played the Sheriff of Nottingham last in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Reiff and Voris, who also work as the executive producers on Showtime's Sleeper Cell, will receive seven figures for the script. There is no direct attached just yet.
Bidding was very competitive for the script, with New Line, Warner Bros, Sony and Dreamworks all expressing interest on the project.
Nottingham will reunite Crowe with Imagine Entertainment. The actor starred in both Cinderella Man and A Beautiful Mind for the banner.
Imagine's Brian Grazer will produce Nottingham, with production expected to begin early 2008 at the latest.
