Star Trek XI
Whew! This may be one of the bigger rumor battles we have seen for some time. This is what it amounts down to: there is some small chance that JJ Abrams has bailed out on Star Trek XI; be it his decision or the studio's. Whether you believe this depends on who you want to believe.
Abrams Beamed Off of Star Trek XI?
LatinoReview broke the scoop that JJ Abrams was out of Star Trek XI.
El Mayimbe just gave me a ring and was speaking Spanglish so fast, I only caught the words, 'Star Trek Eleven', 'strong', 'rumor', 'meeting', 'JJ Abrams', 'out' and 'fuck'. I heard the last word a few times in both English and Spanish so I knew he was trying to make a point.
Seems like, and not long ago, in a meeting somewhere in Hollywood, JJ Abrams was kicked to the curb, or JJ kicked Paramount to the curb, he's not sure yet, but in the end, JJ Abrams is out of Star Trek XI!
The reaction to this rumor was obviously huge. Since Abrams is predicted to be the savior of the franchise, losing him could be the same as losing Star Trek. I know, pretty pessimistic, but that's the thought process at the moment.
Fans found some relief when AICN reported their own response to the rumor.
Hey folks, Harry here... 2 days ago I got sent a "SCOOP: JJ ABRAMS IS OFF STAR TREK MOVIE" rumor. Well, thanks to my interview with JJ back around the time of MI3 that I did for Penthouse, I had JJ's contact info and sent his Blackberry a, "Is this BS or not" email. JJ wrote back in about 20 minutes with a one word response, 'False!" - I then wrote him back to say, "Well, heads up, somebody is trying to spread that rumor." - I then wrote the scooper back to say JJ says it ain't so. Shortly later, JJ responded with, "Haha!"
The site then calls LatinoReview out for reporting the rumor. What does LatinoReview do? They stick to their guns!
OK, no more emails on this. I've read the same stuff you have and y'know what? This sounds awfully familiar. Like another JJA production that initially went astray. Like, Mission Impossible 3 much?! If you recall, there was another director attached to MI3 before JJA, his name was Joe Carnahan.
It turns out that both Carnahan and Paramount said things were cool, when they weren't. If you catch the drift, LatinoReview is claiming that JJ Abrams is doing the same thing.
Is he out, in, out, in? Hard to say, but expect an official announcement shortly. I mean, official official.
Star Trek XI opens to theatres in 2008.
Stay tuned for updates.
