Miramax Films has released the official trailer for their upcoming drama The Hoax that is inspired by Clifford Irving's media scams.
The Hoax Trailer
The Hoax, directed by Lasse Hallstrom (Cider House Rules), is inspired by true events in the life of Clifford Irving, the writer who nearly pulled off one of the most audacious media scams in history, when his “autobiography” of Howard Hughes was published. Richard Gere stars as Irving, who claimed the book was based on in-person interviews with the reclusive billionaire, which were in fact completely bogus. Alfred Molina, Marcia Gay Harden and Hope Davis also star.
What do you do when you experience rejection? How about begin a string of little white lies that help turn a profit. Better yet, ask for an advance of one million dollars. Even better yet, create a fake autobiography on somebody famous.
When the shit finally hits the fan what do you do? Cash the check and run!
