In portraying the relationship between Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick in the movie Factory Girl, actors Guy Pearce and Sienna Miller got really into their characters. Perhaps it's fitting that they used a form of method acting to portray the artistic duo.

Guy Pearce and Sienna Miller on Factory Girl

"We actually went to New York in September and October," said Miller. "We sat and went through the script with the director and really re-wrote some of our stuff and read it out loud, and we had a couple of nights where we’d put on the make-up and run around the hotel room, being them a bit. And then, I got back to London and Guy would call me, every now and then, going 'Edie, it’s Andy,' and we’d have this conversations, just because it was so much fun. We really adored each other. We got on really well, which is great, and I think important. But, on the days where the relationship wasn’t so good, we wouldn’t really talk. We did it as much as we could, and then, at the end of the day, we’d be like, 'I’m sorry. I love you.'”

Pearce recalled their research trips as well. "I read about thirty books on Andy, and she read how many books there were on Edie that existed," said Pearce. "And we went to Pittsburg together, we went to the Warhol Museum, and they allowed us to look at whole lot of footage of Edie and Andy that no one had seen really before, and just spent a long time together. We spent about six weeks together in New York the first chunk, and then another huge chunk after that, and really we got on so well, and we were really supportive of each other, that I think we were just really eager to kind of, you know, ‘How am I doing, how am I doing,’ kind of stuff. So it was a great experience, because she was really open and willing to go the whole way, clearly as one should, and I was too. So it was actually a really nice reflection too I think of probably, potentially, the energy that might have initially been sparked when Andy and Edie found each other in the first place."

The hotel room romps weren't actually as scandalous as Miller originally made them sound, she admits. "We would just be in my room, and I would put on some eyelashes and he’d paint his nails black. I think he has a video of us. He used to film everything. Guy filmed everything because Andy used to film everything, so he has hours and hours and hours, and days of footage from all of us, on set, that I think would be a brilliant film, in itself."

Factory Girl is out in theatres now.
