Talk of sequels/prequels for The Departed only began last month and now Mark Wahlberg has popped up to give new information on what looks to be Departed 2 and 3.

The good people over at EmpireOnline have recently sat down with Mark Wahlberg to discuss the upcoming Departed installments.
“They told me they wanted to try to do it and I said, ‘Well, I enjoyed playing the character’. I mean, this guy [Dignam] doesn’t give a shit about anything. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks. He just does what he does, he does it the way he wants to do it. And I love that. I don’t think that people who are borderline sane have to be bad. It was just the way I was acting throughout the movie, and then you realize that he’s one of the only stand-up guys. He avenges the death of someone he doesn’t even like just because it’s the right thing to do. There’s a dignity to him.”
The first installment featured Jack Nicholson, will the second have a new big name?
Oh, and it seems one of Scorsese’s old friends may be lining up to join the story: “They’re talking about bringing in De Niro to play a senator or a congressman.”
