After pointing out that a Saw IV, Saw V and even a Saw XXX were no brainers back during the theatrical run of Saw III, Lionsgate has only today confirmed the project with the greenlight.
No Shock Here. Saw IV Sees Green
With more than $400 million grossed worldwide with the Saw franchise, it comes as no shock that Lionsgate wants to go forward with another installment. Even if you are part of the minority who didn't like the films, it is hard to deny the simple economics.
To keep the next Saw installment on track, Darren Lynn Bousman will return to direct Saw IV. Yes, this is the same Bousman that directed Saw, Saw II and Saw III.
Bousman, however, does not play to do Saw films forever with his next project being Repo! The Genetic Opera under both Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. The film is a horror opera that Bousman will direct from an original story by co-composers and screenwriters Terrance Zdunich and Darren Smith. Pic is set in the not-so-distant future, when a worldwide epidemic of organ failures inspires a biotech company to launch an organ-financing program reminiscent of an automobile loan plan -- complete with a repossession clause.
Bousman directed Repo!'s original stage production.
Saw IV will enter production April 16th in Toronto. Sticking to the Saw formula, the film will be released worldwide on October 26th.
