The Dursleys The Dursleys
If you are one of those who only watch the Harry Potter films and don't read the books -- shame on you -- then you must have wondered what the heck happened to the Dursley family in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Though every book begins with Potter on 4 Privet Drive with the Dursleys, Goblet of Fire immediately jumped that chapter and went straight to the Weasleys. With the length of the later books, it is easy to understand why Warner Bros had to do it this way.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, however, it is impossible to leave Privet Drive to the imagination of the readers. With a big scene set to take place at this location during the beginning of the film, the Dursley's have been guaranteed another visit.

Richard Griffiths Talks Uncle Vernon's Return in OotP

The good people over at Canada recently caught up with actor Richard Griffiths who not only plays Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter films but will also have a part in Radcliffe's Equus.

Though the Dursley's are back, their roles have changed from big bully to fearful and small.

Uncle Vernon was absent from the last Harry Potter film -- an omission criticized by Radcliffe at the time. But Vernon will be back "fleetingly" in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, which arrives in theatres this summer. Griffiths says it's fascinating how the relationship between Potter and his horrible uncle has evolved and changed over time. At the beginning Harry was oppressed and intimidated by Vernon, and then started gaining more confidence in the second and third film.

Well, at least fleeting is something, right?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens to theatres on July 13th.
