Green for The Night Watchmen
Fox Searchlight and New Regency have agreed to co-finance The Night Watchmen, a James Ellroy-scripted drama with Keanu Reeves set to star.
If David Ayer successfully rewrites the script, he will also be given the task to direct. Though this could bring some added pressure, Ayer will direct even if he doesn't get the script right.
Reeves will play a cop who's always done what was needed to solve homicides and crack down on gang violence until he gets a wakeup call and decides he can no longer play the game that made him so effective.
The Night Watchmen was in a perma-stall until it moved from Paramount to Fox Searchlight/New Regency. After proving himself as director with Harsh Times, David Ayer hopped aboard to helm the long-delayed project.
Reeves last appearance had him as an animated junkie in A Scanner Darkly. In short, he is due for some live-action.
