Star Trek XI Poster Star Trek XI
Back in early December, Variety announced that JJ Abrams would direct Star Trek XI. Paramount immediately responded by announcing that nothing had been confirmed just yet and Variety got a little too far ahead of themselves.

But why stop something that feels so right? With Oscar weekend now upon us, it has now been confirmed (again) that Abrams will direct Star Trek XI.

Abrams to Direct Star Trek XI... No Joke... No, Seriously

I feel like I have done this same report about a dozen times now, so let's just put it out there. The Starship Enterprise has found a captain (director) and producer in JJ Abrams. After the LOST creator was beamed aboard, then off, then aboard and then off of the Enterprise, he has now found a seat for himself on the bridge - far from any teleporter.

Just in case you have been out of the Trekkie loop, Star Trek XI will be a prequel to the franchise set to introduce us to Starfleet Academy while Kirk and Spock start their journey to best-friends-forever.

Abrams will be sticking close to M:I:III scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci for a finished Star Trek XI script.

Star Trek XI should still be on target to open in theatres 2008.

Stay tuned for updates.
