Peter Pan
Peter Pan was not the first or last Disney animated film based on pre-existing material, but this DVD goes into more depth about the comparisons than any other I can recall.
DVD Review: Peter Pan Platinum Edition
The simple "Making of" featurette talks about Walt Disney's influences by earlier Peter Pan productions and the advantages of doing an animated version. Then they have Walt's own interview on the subject, dramatized by hired readers.
Peter Pan fans will get all sorts of jollies seeing attempts at other Peter Pan tales that either trailed off in failed scripts or were rejected ideas for moments in the current story. It's a full 20 minutes of alternate ideas, many coming from original J.M. Barrie productions.
A spot on Tinkerbell traces the character's film presentation. Footage of an old live-action Peter Pan with a flash of light is neat for old school special effects, and makes you appreciate how that evolved into Disney's famous humanesque pixie. Then they go into Margaret Kerry's work which we covered here at Canmag.com.
Peter Pan Platinum Edition DVD is available March 6.
