Matt Damon's name has been orbiting Star Trek XI just as long as JJ Abrams has been on as a producer (and now director). Though we have no confirmations just yet, a few other names have been thrown into orbit for other, important roles.
Star Trek XI Casting Speculation
Who to play James Kirk, Spock, and Dr. McCoy? Though confirming who to play Kirk would be a giant leap for Trek-kind, the good people at IGN have learned who 'studio sources' consider the big three for Star Trek XI.
Wait a sec, we know the big three. Oh, you mean the actors to play the big three!
As expected, Matt Damon is still on the top of the list of James Kirk. He's got the blonde hair, the look and a recent Oscar-winning film with The Departed. Good choice!
The choice for Spock is going to sound weird no matter who it is. So I'll just throw the name out there - Adrien Brody. The Oscar-winner is currently in talks to play the part and, considering Brody already has a very diverse filmography, the role of Spock should come with little risk.
Since Dr. McCoy and Spock have always had a fragile, yet humorous, relationship, the character was a must for even the Academy days. Who to play him? How about CSI: NY's Gary Sinise?
There you have it - Damon, Brody and Sinise are the closest to landing roles in Star Trek XI. As an added bonus IGN mentions that LOST's very own Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) may land the part of Lt. Sulu. The part was originally played by George Takei, who is currently having a great run on NBC's Heroes.
If all goes to plan, Star Trek XI will open to theatres in
2008.
