Revenge of the Nerds: Panty Raid Edition
Deleted scenes from an '80s classic? Hello childhood
time portal. Even though I already own the Revenge of the Nerds
double feature, I would recommend upgrading to this new edition. Who really
needs to own Nerds in Paradise anyway?
DVD Review: Revenge of the Nerds: Panty Raid Edition
There are some substantial scenes as the nerds' pursuit of Lambda Lambda
Lambda was apparently more lengthy. They attend a convention in African
garb where the Asian nerd tries to talk black. We also meet Michael Lerner
as Gilbert's uncle who repeatedly uses a racist term I've never heard of.
There's an additional Olympic event and some other Alpha Beta nastiness.
The only odd one is it seems Stan owed a nerd some money, but that's never
paid off.
Also on this DVD is a pilot for a Revenge of the Nerds
sitcom from 1991. It's '80s video quality with no name actors playing Gilbert,
Lewis, etc. It's got all the obvious sitcom jokes, focusing heavily on the
nerd laugh. It's a lot budget version of the movie plot: The jocks humiliate
them, they apply to Lambda Lambda Lambda with no group photo. They even
use stock footage of the Adams College entrance and the nerds' house before
they fix it up. It's dated by its Arsenio Hall jokes and it makes the TV-movie
sequels look good by comparison. But man, what a glorious failed effort
to save for posterity.
