So long as the name is not changed to, Lady in the Water 2, I think 20th Century Fox made a smart choice by signing M. Night Shyamalan for his next film. Shymalan plans to start filming The Happening in August for a June, 2008 opening.
M. Night Shyamalan Prepares for The Happening
In a sign of hopefully good things to come, the movie is set to be R-Rated (sorry kids) and Shymalan gets to team up with Barry Mendel who produced The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. This new film is about the paranoia surrounding a family after a natural disaster threatens the fate of humans.
Tom Rothman over at Fox can be credited with snagging Shyamalan after he gave him some advice on the not-so-good original script presented to him. 6 weeks later, Shyamalan came back with a better product which Rothman was ecstatic about. Shyamalan was also not too naïve to have seen the previous success of global catostrophic themed movies such as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.
