Auction house worker dons the original cloak of the original Obi-Wan Kenobi
Getting disappointed in theatres with Phantom Menace, seven bucks a ticket; at least entertained with Attack of the Clones, eight bucks a ticket; finding redemption with Revenge of the Sith; nine bucks a ticket; owning the original Obi-Wan Kenobi cloak, damn near priceless.
Well, not exactly, but still pretty damn expensive for $104K.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cloak Sells for $104K at Auction
People knew that the cloak worn by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy would be the main attraction at the recent film/television auction held on March 6th. What they didn't know is that the costume, previously hidden in Angels the Costumiers inventory until last year, would sell for six figures. Like a fine wine, the Obi-Wan cloak had only gained in value with the increased popularity of the Star Wars franchise with much love still being held for the original trilogy.
In order to cut insurance costs, the company decided to sell 400 TV, movie and theatre costumes from its collection. Though that is a big move for any collector, know that the company still has a whopping 1.5 million costumes left. You know, just in case they were ever in a crunch.
Who was the 'lucky' bidder willing to blow $104K on a single robe? Due to what I can only describe as Jedi mind tricks, the bidder has remained anonymous thanks to a very Sith object known as a cell phone.
Whoever it is, congrats. I would have bought the item too... If I was insanely rich, of course.
