It is hard to say whether it is the mudity (male-nudity), dancing nipples, gore or stylized action, but 300 is looking to shoot way past its projected numbers to capture the box office record for March.
Opening Day Box Office: 300
Thanks in part to sold-out midnight screenings and a strong opening at IMAX, 300 earned an estimated $27.8 million on its opening day - a bow that puts the Zack Snyder/Frank Miller epic on track to conquer Ice Age: The Meltdown's record $68 million.
Though critics have had mixed feelings on 300, studios and fans alike are expecting big things from the film. With no other new opening to challenge the Spartan defenders, 300 is expected to enjoy a peaceful weekend from moviegoers craving the first of 2007's major tentpoles.
Since the film has an entertainment factor that satisfies beyond any film this year, expect it to cruise to the record books by the end of the weekend. An impressive feat considering its "R" rating.
