Watchmen
The sly dogs at Warner Bros knew this would happen. Sneak a compelling image or Rorshach into a promotional trailer for 300 to get people talking about Snyder's next concept-project, Watchmen. So now here we are, talking about it.
Watchmen's Complicated Plot Makes it Pricey
Back in February we talked to Zack Snyder about the current progress of Watchmen. After a very bumpy road with studios other than Warner Bros, the project seemed on the fast track thanks to the arrival of Snyder. Now that the director has proven himself (and tested the necessary technology) with 300, Watchmen has popped up on the top of his and Warner Bros' to-do list.
How much are we talking about here? What's this baby going to cost? After spending a conservative $60 million to create 300, Snyder's vision of Watchmen would need a budget of $150 million.
"To do it right, you need a huge budget," an insider said.
The film's complicated plot and expanded budget is what stopped Watchmen from seeing green at both Paramount and Universal - under other great directors including Darren Aronofsky and Paul Greengrass. If you have read the graphic novel, then you already can understand the hold up.
$150 million sounds about right but, with the material at hand, that number has got to make Warner Bros nervous.
