Now that Warner Bros. is ready to let Zack Snyder loose on the long-delayed-but-very-much-wanted Watchmen, the director is out and about talking up the project and that nice little glimpse of Rorschach that he slipped in with one of the trailers for 300.
Snyder on Rorschach
How did Snyder go about sneaking in his test shot of Rorschach? In a brief interview with Empire, reposted at IGN, Snyder admits that it was quickly thrown together with the talent on hand (the set of 300).
"That's actually Wes Coller who's one of the associate producers on 300," Snyder says. "So, we were knocking around the office and I told him to put an overcoat on and I took a picture. We then took it outside to Grant Freckelton [300's visual effects art director] who was having his lunch, and I asked him to knock it up for me. Put the Empire State Building there, put the moon there… it's a start, but it was really just for fun."
Since Snyder has found success with ex-Phantom Gerard Butler in 300, it has been speculated that Butler could show up again for Watchmen.
WizardUniverse reports on the possibility of Butler taking the doomed and therefore short role of Comedian.
