When it was announced that Singer had put the Superman Returns sequel on hold to set up an untitled thriller at UA, we all knew he had a big option - Tom Cruise.
Since Cruise is now king and commander of the studio, it comes as no surprise that the 'actor slash studio owner' will star in Singer's thriller.
Tom Cruise for Singer Thriller
He may not have a title just yet, but Bryan Singer has found his lead in Tom Cruise; making the actor two for two with the newly-rejuvenated UA. Cruise's other UA commitment is Lions for Lambs, directed by Robert Redford and starring Cruise, Redford and Meryl Streep.
The untitled thriller takes place in WWII and is based on actual events. The film will tell the story of German generals who hatch a scheme to assassinate Adolph Hitler at the height of WWII.
Tom Cruise originally picked up the project without the option of playing a role in it. Singer, however, saw things differently and asked Cruise to play a 'central' role. Cruise agreed.
"After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film we had to make," Wagner said. "As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production."
Singer plans on using an Usual Suspects formula for the film.
