Emile Hirsch's filmography may soon get a whole bunch more interesting. After losing his virginity to the Girl Next Door and running from the law in Alpha Dog, Hirsch is looking to test the throttle of the Wachowski brothers' Speed Racer.
Emile Hirsch for Speed Racer
Emile Hirsch is in final talks to star in Warner Bros' Speed Racer for the Wachowski brothers.
Based on the 1960s Japanese cartoon series by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the film will follow the adventures of the youthful Speed -- played by Hirsch -- as he tries to obtain victory in his tricked-out Mach 5 racecar, built by his father
If Hirsch fills the part, the next role in the table will be Racer X, a rival that has a knack for getting Speed out of trouble.
Warner Bros recently laid down the throttle on Speed Racer when they pushed the film's release up two weeks to May 9th, 2008.
Though the Wachowski brothers worked on V for Vendetta, Speed Racer will be their first directing effort since confusing audiences with the Matrix trilogy.
Hirsch can next be seen in Into the Wild, directed by Sean Penn. If you have yet to encounter the actor, I highly suggest you go out and rent Girl Next Door; a high school drama classic.
Production on Speed Racer will see green this summer.
