Blades of Glory
It turns out that same-sex, aka homoerotic, humor doesn't make audiences uncomfortable. Not that it should considering we have already dealt with non-lubed butt love in Brokeback; after that, what can possibly make us uncomfortable? Under the direction of Will Speck and Josh Gordon, Jon Heder and Will Ferrell helped audiences laugh Blades of Glory to the top of the box office for its opening bow.
Blades of Glory Skates Past the Competition
Blades of Glory was forced to face-off against Disney's Meet the Robinsons this weekend as both films experienced wide domestic release. In the end it was Blades of Glory that captured a larger audience with $33 million against the family-from-the-future's $25.1 million. Disney can't be too disappointed, however, it has been some time since they have released an animated film worth checking out.
300 continues to hold strong in the number three spot thanks to the fact that the film is still playing on 3,000-plus screens. The film's total domestic take is now at $179.5 million, a number that puts the stylized epic on track to make more than $200 million domestically.
Another film still holding strong is Disney's coming of older age comedy, Wild Hogs. Deep into its fifth weekend, the film still earned a strong $8.4 million, knocking its total domestic take up to $135.4 million. Not too shabby for a comedy.
Though TMNT took the top spot from 300 last weekend, the film fell faster than a dropped Sai in its second week. With 62% less ticket sales, the film's total take came in just short of $40 million.
