Walden Media shows no sign of slowing on the fantasy genre. The studio will finance the adaptation of Nim's Island, with Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin both in final negotiations to come on and star.
Jodie Foster, Abigail Breslin for Nim's Island
After getting an Oscar nom Little Miss Sunshine, Breslin has not only signed on to the period film American Girl for Picture House and HBO, but is looking at deal number two with Walden Media. Joining up with Jodie Foster, the two will lead Nim's Island, a fantasy novel that tells the story of a young girl who accompanies her scientist father to an isolated island in the South Pacific. When he is lost at sea, she communicates electronically with a person she imagines to be a character from a book but is in fact a reclusive author.
The novel was written by Wendy Orr and Kerry Millard. Scribes Joseph Kwon and Paula Mazur have been given the task of creating a working screenplay for directors Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin.
In American Girl, Breslin will play Kit Kittredge, a character that is one of a line of dolls and accessories. Story follows Kit as she tries to save her family as it struggles through the Depression. Narnia scribe, Ann Peacock, penned the script.
