Every young driver needs parents, even Speed Racer.
John Goodman, Susan Sarandon to Parent Speed Racer
With Emile Hirsch on board to star in Speed Racer, Warner Bros. is now in negotiations with both Susan Sarandon and John Goodman to play the title character's parents.
Based on the classic 1960s series originally created by Tatsuo Yoshida, Speed Racer follows the adventures of young race car driver, Speed (Hirsch), and his quest for glory in his thundering, gadget-laden vehicle Mach 5.
Directed by the Watchowski brothers, both Larry and Andy are being very selective about who they pick up to play Speed's family. If selected, Goodman will play Pops, a race car owner and builder. Sarandon's character represents the backbone of the the family as well s the Mach 5 Go Racing Team.
With the search for Mom and Dad looking complete, Warner Bros. must next find Speed a girlfriend, Trixie, and his mysterious archrival, Racer X.
Joel Silver will produce Speed Racer, which will begin filming this summer in Germany.
