Area 51
Every time another video game gets placed up on the adaptation chopping block, we ask if this one could be the one - the first videogame to have top-notch production value.
The same goes for Area 51, a franchise that Paramount has had under its wing since 2004.
Grant Morrison to Pen Area 51 Adaptation
Though producer Dead Georgaris already penned a screenplay for Area 51 some time back, Paramount is throwing that version out for one that Grant Morrison can (hopefully) write. Morrison is a bestselling comicbook and graphic novel author who has been involved with projects including Justice League of America, Doom Patrol and Fantastic Four.
Based on the console game from Midway Games, Area 51 takes place in the U.S. government's most top-secret facility. Story will follow a hazardous materials specialist who is called in to investigate a viral outbreak that could be extra-terrestrial in nature.
Paramount did a preemptive purchase of Area 51 in 2004, one year before the game's release to consoles such as XBox and PS2.
