Grindhouse
No? You weren’t a fan of the chop ‘em up, two for one Grindhouse? Don’t feel so bad. Neither was most of the public. After a ton of press, the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature came in #4 in the box office at a putrid, $11 million. It was beat out by Ice Cube’s Are We Done Yet? ($15 million). Ouch.
But if you think that the boys over at the Weinstein Company are over there filing for Chapter 11, you’re going to be disappointed. Grindhouse is going to premiere overseas as two separate movies, this doubling the spoils. Not to be outdone, the DVD offspring will also be released separately. So I guess you’re just doing yourself a disservice for not seeing it in the theaters.
And in case you were counting, Hilary Swank’s The Reaping grossed $10 million to take the 5 spot over the weekend. And overall, the box office was up this weekend when comparing it to the same weekend last year.
